Our review process
In the spirit of agroecology, we are using a community review process.
Each submission will be reviewed by two other contributors to The Aggregate. The objective of reviewers is to support authors and offer instructive feedback. Once the criteria on the list below have been met, your post will be published!
The two reviewers will be those who have most recently had their work posted here. If an additional reviewer is needed to fill any gaps, a member of our editorial crew will review.
After you submit, you will be next in line to review a post! You will be notified and sent the post to review, along with a requested timeline.
Reviewing is straightforward, the following will be checked:
Reviewers are requested to check that the submission is -
On topic. (see the “submit your work” page)
Meets length criteria. (see the “submit your work” page)
Is the author(s)’ own work.
Spelling and grammar is correct, or close enough such that errors are not distracting from the key points. Suggestions should be made if minor edits are needed.
Content is readable for non-specialists and writing is clear. Feedback should be given if changes are needed for clarity.
Tone is thoughtful and considerate if it is a piece that is reviewing or critiquing, other work.
The post invites conversation or asks questions, when possible.
Citations or links to the original source of an idea or data are present. As this is a blog, no single format is required. Hyperlinks to sources, including journal articles, are acceptable.
Content is accessible: if a source being referenced is behind a paywall that not everyone would be able to access, the post should be written such that readers do not have to read that article in order to understand the blog post.
Suggestions from reviewers will be made in “suggesting” or “commenting/track changes” mode.
Note that all posts will be formatted to fit on the website platform, the editorial team will do our best to preserve the original format.
