About the Editorial Team

Sara Delaney

Sara is currently working on her PhD at the University of Maine. Her research investigates the many drivers of farmer decision-making, innovation and climate adaptation. This was inspired by more than a decade of work with (many amazing) farmers in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Her previous education includes a BS in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, and an MA in Science, Society and Development from the Institute of Development Studies in the UK. She is passionate about supporting the people who grow our food. She also loves swimming, skiing, exploring, asking questions, and finding creative ways to use all of the leftovers.

Karen Guzman

Karen Guzman is passionate about connecting food systems and community. She has worked as an urban farmer in New York City for about a decade and most recently, joined Cornell Cooperative Extension as a specialist on the Urban Agriculture team, supporting urban farmers across the city. Karen focuses on teaching urban farmers/gardeners sustainable production methods, emphasizing soil health and how to incorporate native plantings to create a dual purpose growing space.

Kyle Karnuta

Kyle Karnuta is an advocate for land stewardship, for community, and for nourishing and accessible food systems. A passionate, lifelong learner, she holds a BA in environmental policy from Duke University and a Master’s of Public Administration, concentrating in environmental policy, from Cornell University. She is currently working on an urban agriculture curriculum project, is a member of the Slow Food NYC board, and volunteers with the Newtown Creek Alliance in New York City. You can follow Kyle’s work on her website, https://www.kylekarnuta.com/

Eugene Law

Dr. Eugene Law is an Assistant Professor in Weed Ecology at The Ohio State University. His research, teaching, and extension focuses on enhancing the sustainability of agroecosystems by integrating ecological principles with cropping systems and weed management. He has a PhD in Agronomy, Crop Science, and Agricultural Economics from Cornell University, an MS in Environmental Science and a BS in Environmental Resources Engineering and Environmental Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He loves to explore new places with family and friends, reading, playing games of all sorts, visiting libraries and museums, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, yoga, and weightlifting.

Claire Lynch

Claire Lynch is an advocate for climate-resilient and regenerative food systems. She has worked as an urban farmer in Colorado, agri-tech researcher at Cornell University, and organizer in New York City. She now works in environmental advocacy, leading on food, agriculture, forestry, and land use policy in New York State and is passionate about finding solutions that build resilience and support farmers. She is a proud graduate of CUNY City College (BA) and Cornell University (MPA), and is a Board Member for the Groundswell Center for Local Food and Farming.

Alex Scearce

Alex Scearce is a PhD student in the Agroecology Lab at the University of Maine. Her research addresses place-based agroecosystem challenges, beginning with her MS work on PFAS contamination and extending to her current focus exploring soil-crop-pollinator interactions under climate change. Through the lens of community ecology, she emphasizes plant-soil feedbacks and leverages tools from microbial ecology and bioinformatics to advance agroecology as a science, with goals of engaging more with the movement and practice as she goes along.
